How did you get into developing apps?

We have been intrigued with the mass exposure (marketing) capability of the App World, and believe that the smart phone is going to be most personal computer in the near future. Given that the Blackberry App World is relatively new and more importantly a significant number of W. C. Kennedy & Associates IPP market (owner managers & incorporated professionals) have Blackberrys –deciding to develop the application was a no-brainer.

What was your inspiration for developing this app?

W. C. Kennedy & Associates Inc.:

One of our core businesses is implementation of IPPs (owner/manager pension plans). The starting point for any IPP discussion begins with retirement/financial planning. We had developed a planning tool for the laptop that this discussion could start around. Of the million plus incorporated small business owners and incorporated professionals most we believe have Blackberrys and ALL are starting to hear about the “IPP” pension plan that allows them to have more contribution room than RRSPs alone. So seeing the opportunity to have our Application downloaded by all of these owner managers with follow up conversations with W. C. Kennedy & Associates to put in place an IPP for these Blackberry users we saw as an incredible opportunity for us.

At the same time the functionality of our Application is well suited for retirement/financial planning discussions for everyone – not just individuals interested in the IPP – but since we do not sell investment product any investment discussions with us will happen at a theroretical unbiased level not at a selling level.

What do you think users will like the best about your app?

We believe users will like four things:

FIRST is FUNCTIONALITY – it projects income streams from not only RRSPs, but company pensions, CPP & OAS as well as non-registered assets, then compares them to expenses and then allows you to fine tune expenses to give you a basis to begin retirement planning.

SECOND is the IPP: If you are an incorporated business you can click on the IPP button and find out what this owner/manager pension plan is all about,

THIRD and possibly most important – is Total Confidentiality of Information – all inputted information resides on your Blackberry only and is not on some website somewhere, and

FORTH is – we do not sell investment products of any kind.

Are there any hidden features to the app?

No – other than the IPP addon which is only triggered when you answer Yes to having your own business.

5. Do you have any future plans for this app?

W. C. Kennedy & Associates Inc.:

We plan to extend the application with additional functionality for export/import of the user data, integration with email, customisation for partner brokers. Application will be tailored to meet customers need and partner requirements.

As well the Income/Expense comparison concept is not Canadian specific – making the Application country specific is relatively easy now that we Canadian version and we will go everywhere Blackberrys are sold.
